Bleach Episode 111
Ichigo's father, Isshin Kurosaki, wasn't always the man he is today. Before becoming a family man in the world of the living, Isshin Shiba was the captain of Squad 10, now commanded by his former subordinate Toshiro Hitsugaya. Isshin was first revealed to have been a Soul Reaper as well way back in episode 111 of the original Bleach series, when he showed up to protect Kon (in Ichigo's body) from the return of the Grand Fisher Hollow. Isshin is then able to avenge his wife's death by defeating the Grand Fisher once and for all.

In the new episode's flashback, Isshin goes to the world of the living to investigate a series of mysterious deaths of Soul Reapers, which suggest that something abnormally dangerous may be lurking in Karakura Town. There, he is ambushed by the mysterious Hollow, which has its Hollow hole plugged up and wields an unusual amount of power. In order to deal with the threat, Isshin pulls out his Zanpakuto and calls its name, Engetsu, to engage its shikai power. The sword is wreathed in flame, but Isshin is stabbed in the back by Bleach's big villain, Aizen, and falls to a nearby rooftop. From there, he launches an interesting attack using the flames and his own blood to create a spray of fire. About that time, Masaki Kurosaki, Ichigo's mother, arrives and saves him with her Quincy powers, luring the Hollow near her so that she could destroy it with a single shot.
